Looked after Children With SEND

We have a Designated Teacher for Looked after Children Mr Mulligan who works closely with the SENCO to ensure all teachers in school understand the implications for those children who are looked after and have SEN.

All members of staff are aware of who our looked after children are. We ensure that they have equal opportunities in school and also have the opportunity to enrich their learning outside of school. Mrs McKay & Miss Halton our SEN Team works closely with Mr Mulligan,  to ensure all reviews are carried out and alongside members of SLT there is always someone who attends review/PEP Meetings.

Looked After Children with SEND are supported in the same way all children in school with SEN, through the Graduated Response: the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ cycle. The process will begin with a Short Note and, following the identification of need, a SEN Support Plan or EHCP will be devised to effectively meet the requirements of the pupil.

A Personal Education Plan (PEP) ensures each child’s needs and services required to meet these needs are documented. The PEP is a joint record between the school and the local authority of what needs to happen for Looked After Children to enable them to fulfil their potential, securing good basic skills, stretching aspirations and building firm, positive life chances.
